Product Description

Polylube 8 is a high-performance lubricity additive engineered for water-based drilling fluids (WBM), designed to significantly reduce torque and drag and improve drilling efficiency across all water-based systems.
Polylube 8 delivers consistent friction reduction and demonstrated temperature stability across a wide range of operating conditions. Its diesel-free formulation makes it well suited for offshore operations where environmental compliance, safety, and fluid performance are critical.

  • Excellent Lubricity Performance: Demonstrated coefficient of friction reduction of up to 65–70% vs. base mud systems, reducing torque and drag to improve ROP, reduce mechanical wear, and extend tool life.
  • Proven Brine Compatibility: Demonstrates excellent compatibility in freshwater and sodium chloride brines up to approximately 8.6 ppg across treat rates from 0.5–5 vol%.
  • Diesel-Free Formulation: Higher flash point than diesel-based additives, supporting safer handling and offshore environmental compliance.
  • Thermal Stability: Retains full performance after extended high-temperature aging, suitable for HPHT wells and deepwater extended reach drilling.

Applications

Extended Reach Wells

Horizontal and Directional Drilling

High-Density Drilling Fluids

Saltwater and Moderate-Density NaCl Brine Mud Systems (up to approximately 8.6 ppg NaCl density)

Benefits

Excellent Lubricity Performance

Demonstrated coefficient of friction reduction of up to 65–70% vs. base mud systems, significantly reducing torque and drag to improve ROP, reduce mechanical wear, and extend tool life.

Proven Brine Results

Demonstrates excellent compatibility in freshwater and sodium chloride brines up to approximately 8.6 ppg across treat rates from 0.5–5 vol%. In higher salinity systems, treat rate optimization may be required to maintain dispersion stability. Compatibility testing should be performed prior to use in brines exceeding 8.8 ppg NaCl density.

Diesel-Free Offshore Advantage

Diesel-free formulation with a higher flash point (~285°F) than diesel-based additives

Thermal Stability

Retains full performance after extended high-temperature aging, making it suitable for HPHT wells and deepwater extended reach drilling.

Rheology Neutral

Minimal impact on plastic viscosity, yield point, and gel strengths, maintaining hole cleaning efficiency, ECD control, and hydraulic performance.

Versatile Compatibility

Effective in freshwater, seawater, and moderate-density sodium chloride brine systems. Recommended for water-based muds up to approximately 8.6 ppg NaCl equivalent salinity. Laboratory compatibility testing is recommended for higher-density monovalent brines and saturated salt systems.

Cost Advantage vs. Diesel

Delivers competitive pricing relative to diesel-based lubricants while eliminating the compliance costs, environmental liability, and safety risks associated with hydrocarbon additives in offshore and sensitive drilling environments.
