Product Description

CALFLO™ HTF is a premium high-temperature heat transfer fluid engineered for demanding industrial applications requiring both exceptional thermal performance and workplace safety. Manufactured by Petro-Canada, this fluid starts with 99.9% pure base oils produced using a patented HT purity process—crystal-clear fluids free of impurities and aromatic compounds that can be hazardous to workplace health and safety. Fortified with specially selected additives developed through more than 25 years of formulating expertise, CALFLO™ HTF delivers outstanding resistance to oxidative breakdown while providing long, reliable service life at bulk temperatures up to 326°C (620°F) and film temperatures as high as 343°C (650°F). Unlike synthetic aromatic fluids that raise environmental and health concerns, CALFLO™ HTF combines the thermal efficiency and cleanliness of a paraffinic hydrocarbon with the high-temperature stability typically associated with chemical aromatics—all without objectionable odors, respiratory irritation, or hazardous material classifications.

  • High-Temperature Capability: Operates continuously at bulk temperatures up to 326°C (620°F) with film temperatures to 343°C (650°F) in non-pressurized liquid-phase systems.
  • Non-Hazardous Formula: Not classified as hazardous under OSHA, WHMIS, or EU DPD—no special handling permits, no objectionable odors, no respiratory or skin irritation concerns.
  • Superior Oxidation Resistance: More resistant to oxidative breakdown than chemical aromatic competitive fluids, significantly extending service life in systems with incidental air exposure.
  • Clean System Operation: Resistance to fluid breakdown greatly reduces formation of high-fouling carbonaceous deposits that can compromise heat transfer efficiency.

Note: CALFLO™ HTF’s high thermal stability provides long service life under normal operating conditions up to its maximum recommended temperature. However, actual fluid life depends on system design and operating practice. Special precautions should be taken to avoid conditions that can shorten fluid life, including thermal shocking from accelerated temperature increases, hot spots on heating coils, and continuous operation above maximum recommended bulk temperature. Although CALFLO™ HTF is highly resistant to oxidative breakdown, excessive air and water contamination can reduce thermal efficiency and shorten fluid life over time. Where practical, inert gas blanketing of the expansion tank is recommended to guard against air and moisture exposure. Contamination with process chemicals or deteriorated residual fluids can also shorten service life; Petro-Canada highly recommends thorough system cleaning and flushing using CALFLO™ Cleaning Fluid and CALFLO™ Flushing Fluid to remove all contaminants, sludge, and varnish prior to charging with fresh CALFLO™ HTF. The fluid’s low vapor pressure minimizes leakage from control valves and pipe flanges, while its natural lubricating properties extend the service life of circulating pumps and rotating equipment. Because CALFLO™ HTF is non-hazardous, shipments and storage do not normally require special safety permits; empty drums are readily accepted by drum reconditioners, and used fluid may be responsibly disposed through resale to used oil recycling companies or, in some jurisdictions, combined with BTU recovery systems (all transport and disposal must comply with applicable federal, state, provincial, and local regulations). Annual fluid analysis is recommended to monitor fluid condition and optimize change-out intervals.
