Product Description
Sodium Nitrite 40-41% Purified Aqueous Solution is a technical-grade inorganic salt solution reclaimed and refined by CHEM Group at their Evansville, Indiana facility. This ready-to-use aqueous solution contains 40-41% sodium nitrite (NaNO₂, CAS 7632-00-0) by weight, providing industrial users with a convenient liquid form that eliminates the handling challenges associated with dry powder—no more lifting and dumping 55-pound bags, dealing with caked material, or managing splashing during solutionizing. Reclaimed from rayon and Plexiglas manufacturing processes, CHEM Group’s sodium nitrite solution represents a sustainable alternative to virgin material while delivering consistent quality and performance. The purification process yields a clear to slightly yellowish solution with low organic contamination and controlled impurity levels, suitable for a wide range of industrial chemical applications where technical-grade purity is required.
- Ready-to-Use Liquid Form: Eliminates powder handling, caking, and solutionizing steps—greatly increased efficiency for nitrite addition to formulations and processes.
- Reclaimed & Sustainable: Recovered from industrial manufacturing streams, reducing hazardous waste landfilling and supporting circular economy principles.
- Consistent Quality: Tightly controlled specifications with typical sodium nitrite content of 40.7% and low impurity levels verified by certificate of analysis.
- Technical Grade: Suitable for industrial applications including corrosion inhibition, dye manufacturing, and chemical synthesis—not sold for food applications.

Note: CHEM Group’s Sodium Nitrite 40-41% Purified Aqueous Solution is intended for industrial applications only and is not sold for food applications. This technical-grade product is suitable for use in corrosion inhibitor formulations, dye and pigment manufacturing, pharmaceutical and agricultural intermediate synthesis, and other industrial chemical processes. Pricing is based on net nitrite content (dry basis), allowing for straightforward cost comparison with dry sodium nitrite products. Treatment of sodium nitrite with acid affords nitrous acid, which is required for various industrial applications including diazotization reactions in dye synthesis. As a corrosion inhibitor, sodium nitrite functions as an anodic inhibitor that reacts with dissolved oxygen to form a protective gamma iron oxide film on ferrous metal surfaces, making it effective in closed-loop cooling and heating systems when formulated at appropriate concentrations (typically with borate buffers at pH 9.0-10.5 for optimal performance). Store in a cool, dry area away from incompatible materials including ammonium compounds, strong acids, and combustible materials. Sodium nitrite is an oxidizer—while noncombustible itself, it will accelerate the burning of combustible materials. Handle in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for complete handling, storage, and disposal information.
