Description
Thermaflo® 59 is a reclaimed synthetic heat transfer fluid based on alkyl-substituted aromatic chemistry, specifically ethyl diphenyl ethane and related derivatives. This fluid was originally engineered for extreme cold-weather applications—most notably operations on the Alaska North Slope—where conventional thermal fluids would solidify or become too viscous to pump. The alkyl aromatic molecular structure delivers an exceptional combination of low-temperature fluidity and high-temperature stability, making Thermaflo® 59 uniquely suited for systems requiring both heating and cooling capabilities within the same circuit. With an operating envelope spanning -45°C to 315°C (-50°F to 600°F), this fluid maintains surprisingly low viscosity across the entire temperature range, enabling efficient heat transfer even during rapid thermal cycling.
- Exceptional Low-Temperature Performance: Pumpable down to -37°C (-35°F) with a freeze point below -61°C (-78°F), eliminating heat tracing requirements in even the coldest operating environments.
- Dual Heating-Cooling Capability: Low viscosity characteristics deliver excellent heat transfer coefficients during both heating and cooling cycles, making it ideal for batch processing and systems with temperature reversals.
- Extended Operating Envelope: Functions reliably from -45°C to 315°C with maximum film temperatures to 345°C (650°F), covering a broader range than most single-phase thermal fluids.
- Rapid Thermal Response: Low molecular weight (207) and low viscosity enable fast heat-up and cool-down rates, improving process cycle times.
